The
Craven Heifer Inn is located in almost the centre of the UK, equidistant
to both the East and West coasts, as well as halfway between the
south coast of England and the northern tip of Scotland. We are
on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, one of the most
beautiful natural areas in the UK, don't take our word for it, ask
any Yorkshireman. Addingham village is situated on the A65, the
major road from Leeds to the Dales and Lake District, although the
main road now by-passes the village, returning it once more to a
peaceful rural setting. The River Wharfe valley, one of the larger
Dales, extends from close to the market town of Hawes, through Kettlewell,
Grassington, Bolton Abbey, Addingham, Ilkley, Otley finally joining
the River Ouse just south of York. Addingham is less than 20 miles
north and west of Leeds and Bradford, and 8 miles east from the
market town of Skipton, and only 3 miles west of Ilkley, and the
famous "Ilkla' Moor", with or without t'at.

There
are many great visitor attractions within easy reach of the 'Heifer',
the ruins of Bolton Abbey only a couple of miles to the north, and
6 miles to the south is Keighley, the Worth Valley Steam Railway
and Haworth, the heart of "Bronte" country. York and Harrogate
are also within an hour's drive to the east, along with Harewood
House, Ripley Castle. Fountains Abbey and Ripon are to the north
with many other of the 20 dales easily accessable. The Yorkshire
North Sea coastal towns of Whitby and Scarborough can also be reached
in about two hours drive, traffic permitting.
Kendal
and the Lake district, are only 60 miles along the A65, closer still,
around Clitheroe is the Forest of Bowland, assuming you'll be able
to get a visa to cross the border into the wild bandit country of
Lancashire, be very careful out there, likely as not be attacked
with a large black pudding and an Eccles cake. Also Blackpool and
Morecambe on the Irish Sea Coast of Lancashire are only a couple
of hours away.
